Staff, Program & Organizational Development Certificate Program

NCSPOD invites you to participate in the Certificate of Achievement Program for Staff, Program, and Organizational Development practitioners. This year-long Certificate Program includes intensive face-to-face training and development opportunities; individual goal-setting, planning, and reflection; and the opportunity to work with an experienced mentor on the development of five core competencies required of professionals working in the field of staff, program, and organizational development.

    Program Goals:

    The Certificate Program is designed to:

    • Recognize accomplishments of competency for individuals who have
      • Proven knowledge of the general principles and practices of staff, program, and/or organizational development (SPOD)
      • Demonstrated a high level of achievement in the practice of their profession in all areas of SPOD
    • Provide opportunities to further knowledge, skills, and competence of SPOD practitioners through professional development activities
    • Share a record of accomplishments, skills, knowledge of SPOD practitioners to institutions and organizations who are interested in utilizing the services of these practitioners
    • Provide an increased understanding and acceptance of SPOD development professionals as essential and valuable members of a college community
    • Educate others that the development and coordination of professional development programs call for special training and expertise
       

    Certificate Process:

    • Complete Application Form and submit it to certification liaison
    • Contact supervisor to:
      • Explain rationale/purpose/process of certification
      • Obtain institutional commitment to complete the process
    • Begin work on personal profile and pre-assessment
    • Working with certificate team, pair with mentor
    • In cooperation with mentor:
      • Determine personal goals concerning certification
      • Review “Launching” program needs assessment, prepare for survey, and complete this as step 1
      • Outline project parameters (keeping in mind SPOD competencies, assessment and outcomes of programming endeavors)
      • Set realistic timeline expectations
    • Consult with mentor regularly, on a monthly basis at a minimum
    • Follow certification timeline
      • Submit “Midyear Reflection Report” of progress to date
      • Complete portfolio outline-submit to mentor for feedback
      • Submit completed portfolio to Certification Liason
    • Celebrate completion of certification at International Conference
       

    Requirements of the program include:

    • Completion of application (attached), current NCSPOD membership and payment of participant fee
    • Personal Profile
    • Completion of self-assessment and on-going reflection
    • Monthly meetings with a qualified mentor (may be at a distance)
    • Monthly meetings (via internet) with cohort (participants will lead one on-line interactive sessions with the cohort.)
    • Maintenance of a reflective journal
    • Completion of activities to develop desired competencies
    • Participation in a minimum of two (at least 1 NCSPOD sponsored) personal professional development activities as agreed upon between mentoring pairs.
    • Completion of a portfolio detailing goals, activities, evaluations and reflections of year long program

    Competencies for Program Completers:

    Core Competencies (participants will document competencies in these 5 areas)

    • ANALYZE the institutional, departmental, and/or individual development needs
    • DESIGN a program or training event to meet an identified need
    • DEVELOP the program or training event to provide learner success
    • IMPLEMENT the program or training event
    • EVALUATE the level of success of the program or training event

    Secondary Competencies (participant will document competency in 1 or 2 areas)

    • Manage Organizational Development
    • Develop Interpersonal Relationships
    • Facilitate Communications
    • Acquire Resources
    • Identify and Promote Rewards
    • Administer Development Programs for Staff
    • Administer Development Programs for Faculty
    • Maintain Program Viability
    • Use Technology Effectively
       

    Cost:

    A participant fee of $100 is assessed at the time of application to offset expenses connected with the program. Participants also are responsible for fees associated with registration at their selected training activities, including any phone charges for meetings with their mentor and the cohort.
