Get to Know your Regional VPI have been in higher education for 35 years, almost all of that time spent at Clark College in Vancouver, WA. For 13 years I was an instructor and professor in the dental hygiene program and then moved into the position of director of the program. Two and a half years ago I took an opportunity that came available at Clark to create and direct the Teaching and Learning Center. It has been a challenging and rewarding career shift.
When I am not working on faculty development and living as I do in the beautiful northwest, I love getting outside either walking, hiking, or bicycling. If I am not out moving I am sitting in the easy chair reading a wide-range of books and newspapers. I am active in my community on a variety of healthcare and other social and political issues. An area of interest and professional growth for me is bioethics.
In facing the challenges of faculty development, I see a growing need for members to have a place to learn how to be effective in their positions and NCSPOD provides that assistance. As an organization we are using a variety of ways to facilitate the sharing of knowledge and experience with members. This valuable assistance will help our institutions and students navigate the economic and social challenges we face. The events, programs, and resources NCSPOD provides can excite and inspire members and administrators in doing their jobs as well as possible.
This year I would like to promote regional communication that would build a network so people can share resources and expertise with each other. Promoting participation in the web based seminars would help facilitate this community. I would also like to encourage and assist members in attending the annual meeting in St. Paul. In my work in faculty development I found the NCSPOD conferences and workshops to be invaluable.
